Kolo: Genderless Minimalism

Brand Kolo Berlin

Words Javier Zamora-Kalazich

Established in 2020, KOLO Berlin has become a Love Brand by questioning and reinterpreting stereotypes that set fashion in the context of what is happening nowadays in societies. Since its beginnings, their streetwear collections have been presented as genderless, challenging the conventional binary notions of fashion designed exclusively for “men” or “women”.

Born and developed in Berlin, this fashion label collects inspiration from the urban chic lifestyle of the metropolis, combined with a timeless and minimalist design ethos. Presenting garments that transcend time, KOLO Berlin creates under the idea of adding value to the individuality of those wearing its pieces.

“I establish KOLO Berlin in 2020, deeply rooted in this city. The interaction with people in this place often inspires me and my collections. Sometimes it’s the small things, actions in the streets, or even people and their individual styles.”

In 2017, designer and architect Aigerim Usabaev launched KOLO Berlin’s first ready-to-wear collection without anticipating the journey that lay ahead. “I started with one collection not aiming to create a brand. After a very positive reception, I decided to establish KOLO Berlin in 2020, deeply rooted in this city. The interaction with people in this place often inspires me and my collections. Sometimes it’s the small things, actions in the streets, or even people and their individual styles”, explains the designer behind this beloved brand.

Dropping only one ready-to-wear collection per year, KOLO Berlin stands behind the idea of a responsible fashion industry. By producing handcrafted designs made in their studio in Neukölln, Berlin, the brand ensures high quality in their processes and garments, limiting production to small series or custom orders. Collaborating with local suppliers, this fashion label only uses ecologically produced textiles, including GOTS-certified organic cotton, and sustainable materials that guarantee fair trade.

“Looking into the future, I believe that clothes need to be valued more, especially the craftsmanship behind every garment. Additionally, the binary way of thinking is no longer relevant in these times, so fashion definitely needs to reconsider this approach. At KOLO Berlin, we strive to make this possible with every new collection”, expresses Aigerim, the driving force behind the brand’s forward vision.
