Horses: Relief

Artist Horses

Words JAVIER ZAMORA-KALAZICH

Under the name of Horses, the two directors Kathrin “Kasia” Sylwestrzak and Panagiota Florou, introduce “Relief”, the first episode of a larger project aimed at exploring the meaning of existence through the experiences and needs of different people. In this initial release, the directors present Olezha, an artist that has experienced forced displacement several times in recent years, who questions the intrinsic definition about their identity and rejects fitting into categories, instead choosing to define themselves based on their immediate and present feeling.

The LGBTQIA+ community is often dehumanized. Therefore, we wanted to focus on the feeling of relief as a way to rehumanize it. Regardless of who we are, we can all agree that we want to reach a state of relief in our everyday lives.”

As an invitation to reflect on our own conceptions of identity, “Relief” challenges the external factors that influence or shape identities, suggesting that we strip them away to discover the truth in consciousness. What gives you a feeling of relief? This question has been the driving force behind this short film.

In the words of the directors, “The LGBTQIA+ community is often dehumanized. Therefore, we wanted to focus on the feeling of relief as a way to rehumanize it. Regardless of who we are, we can all agree that we want to reach a state of relief in our everyday lives. This drove us to remind people of this shared feeling through Olezha’s voice, showcasing their expression freely by asking the simple question “What is it that you need right now?”.
