Love, Lust, And Freedom: A Must-Visit Queer Exhibition

Words Javier Zamora-Kalazich

From ordinary daily routines to a journey of multiple identity expressions, “Love, Lust and Freedom” is an exquisite curation of the work of international photographers showcasing queer lives in their own diversity. Available at Kunstmuseum Brandts in Odense, Denmark, from March 2024 until January 2025, the exhibition presents the perspectives of various artists capturing moments of the lives of queer people and their essential right to exist, to love, and to desire, whoever and however they want.

“The exhibition invites us into a universe where we might recognise aspects of ourselves (…), it’s about the very basic right to love whoever you love, and to live a life where you are true to yourself.”

“Love, Lust, and Freedom” features the work of Mengwen Cao, MC Coble & Louise Wolthers, Samet Durgun, Nan Goldin, Marvel Harris, Florian Hetz, Clifford Prince King, Julie Lauerberg, Robert Mapplethorpe, Sven Marquardt, Rafal Milach, George Nebieridze, Niels Nedergaard, Ralf Obergfell, Tero Puha, Laurence Rasti, Mary Steen, Christer Strömholm, Dónal Talbot, Birk Thomassen, and Wolfgang Tillmans.

The collection of international images celebrating queer identities speaks a universal language and extends a reflection to all visitors. In the words of Stine Høholt, Director of Kunstmuseum Brandts, “the exhibition invites us into a universe where we might recognise aspects of ourselves (…), it’s about the very basic right to love whoever you love, and to live a life where you are true to yourself”.
