The Queer Archive: Kavla #3 – Slaughterhouse

Artist The Queer Archive

Words Javier Zamora-Kalazich

“A slaughterhouse isn’t just a house of death. It’s a space in between life and death, the road to the Underworld”, explains the introduction of the third issue of KAVLA fanzine, the latest independent publication from The Queer Archive. Featuring the creations of more than 20 queer artists, this issue revolves around the topics of darkness, light, brutality, gentleness, rawness, and emotion. All presented through the lenses of queer perspectives.

“A slaughterhouse isn’t just a house of death. It’s a space in between life and death, the road to the Underworld.”

In a visual and poetic journey, KAVLA #3 is a finely curated compilation by its editor, Konstantinos Menelaou, and two guest editors, Florian Hetz and Olivia Typaldos. Presenting exposed-flesh stories of queer experiences meant to resonate, this fanzine navigates the inherent human condition of change throughout different episodes of life and the accompanying struggles. Portraying a full range of turbulent emotions, the selected artistic creations showcase the intimate processes of delving deeper into life stories, that like a slaughterhouse, they chop, amputate, and transform parts of oneself into a new version of each identity.

This new edition of KAVLA features the work of Slava Mogutin, Arnoldas Kubilius, Alina Gross, Angel Alvarado, Antonio Kiselic Ledinsky, Rafael Zulfugarov, Callum Leo Hughes, Jozo Jurič, Thomas Gray Venable, Zestybob, Fausto, George Kanis, Johnny Abbate, Stuart Sandford, Juan Salvador, Yves De Brabander, Olivia Typaldos, Mark Timothy Hayward, Demitri Wylde, Lesley Moon, Steven Reigns, and Orlan.
