J.H. Engström: Elegant Minimalism In 30 Years Of Filippa K

Acclaimed photographer and visual artist J.H. Engström has collaborated with Filippa K to publish a photography book titled “It’s Been 30 Years”. As the first time for the artist working with a fashion house, this visual journey was crafted hand-in-hand with the fashion house’s Creative Director, Liisa Kessler, to celebrate three decades of Scandinavian elegance and minimalism. It presents a curated mix of the fashion brand’s garments and accessories alongside unpublished material from the photographer. 

This sophisticated yet casual and poetic collaboration between the two creatives began after Liisa Kessler was named the new Creative Director of Filippa K in 2022. Discovering J.H. Engström’s photography book “From Back Home” in a Parisian bookstore, she found inspiration in his work that she describes as “a natural sensuality and a raw, youthful energy that wasn’t forced. The unpolished approach interested me, as it connects with the intimacy that’s at the soul of the brand and J.H. ‘s work”.

After getting in contact with the artist, both creatives agreed to create this book. In J.H. Engström words: “My conversations with Liisa about time, place, energies, and self-expression became the beginning of this joyful book collaboration”. Reminiscing the minimalist wave of the 90’s in Sweden, along with the feeling of freedom and Scandinavian sensuality, “It’s Been 30 Years” embraces the abstract and existentialist approach of J.H. Engström photography. By presenting landscapes of Värmland, Sweden, merged with selected garments from the 30 years of Filippa K, the artist explores Scandinavian emotionality through images.    

With only 500 copies available in this limited edition, “It’s Been 30 Years” stands as a graceful milestone in the history of the Swedish brand.
