Oberá-based, award-winning visual artist Mauricio Holc’s work is all about exploring identities. With a great love for fashion and documentary, Mauri’s photography creates spaces for diverse voices of the queer community. His ongoing series, Ser Libre (Being Free Being) is an ongoing exploration through the diverse narratives and experiences of friends and people he had met during his journeys. “I hope that through my art I can help people in some way. I feel that the photographs I take are part of a healing process for me and the people I photograph.”

“I hope that through my art I can help people in some way. I feel that the photographs I take are part of a healing process for me and the people I photograph.”

Mauricio is a highly sensitive artist, a quality that definitely shines through his work. He looks at Ser Libre (Being Free Being) as an experiment, for himself and for everyone involved in the making of the series. He is not afraid to address topics like privilege, and through his photography show yet another way how identities can prevail in a place that can be seen as “far off” by many in the Western world.

“The stories within Ser Libre (Being Free Being) demonstrate that freedom is a fundamental right that enables our lives to flourish. Freedom thrives in diversity, as it represents the highest degree of expression and resonance. Thus, it is vital to include and embrace narratives, lives, and experiences that have been overlooked in a patriarchal society that resists anything different.”

Mauricio is part of Container Love’s latest special, Spring Is My Love, our ongoing series celebrating a new season with beautiful, new artists to discover!
